A recent large scale project 07.07.07 involved the public voting for a list of modern day Seven Wonders of the World. And basically we would like to do the same.
The first stage of the Seven Fortean Wonders of the World is to collect nominations and this stage is open until the end of September 2007. There are two categories, merely to help focus the mind as there are so many things that could be nominated. The two categories are Fortean places and Fortean artefacts. The only thing excluded are people, so Charles Fort is out. However artefacts relating to people are allowable so the two skulls of John the Baptist would be allowable.
The nominations have to be emailed to the CFI address.
Why are we doing it this way when there is a perfectly good forum section on the CFI website? Well we're trying to build up a list of Fortean Wonders of the World and we want to see what people come up with and we also want to see how popular things are. When it comes to voting we don't want it to be possible to vote for everything that was ever put forward, this way we can make things more streamlined and ensure that any silly suggestions e.g. the world famous Richard Freeman CFZ thong (which hopefully would only be nominated by one individual) would be excluded from the final voting. Once the nominations have closed the list will be put on the Polls section of the CFI site and at the same time some of the forum space will be opened up for discussion / defence / canvasing of the potential Seven Fortean Wonders of the World.
If you don't want to see posts along the lines of “why isn't such and such there" I suggest you get nominating: you're not restricted in the number of nominations, but please only nominate things once. After two months of discussion and voting the polls will close on the 30th of November 2007 and the winners will be announced on the CFI website and in Fortean Times Magazine. The more people who contribute the more representative the poll will be. Who knows it might even form the basis of the itinerary for your 2008 holidays!
